Coaching News

Shropshire are hosting another Level 1 Coaching Award on 11th May & 22nd June.  There is still a substantial subsidy of 50% available from BCGBA & SCGBA will contribute towards the cost so we are looking for volunteers to step forward.  Some leagues are very well represented by coaches but large areas of the county e.g. Ludlow, Oswestry have none and Shrewsbury & Whitchurch only a few.  Please think seriously about becoming a coach.

Club coaching Sessions

The Shropshire coaching team are open for business once again.  We did 20 visits to clubs last year and would really like to surpass that this year.  So, whether we have been to you before or you would like us to visit for the first time please contact me to arrange a visit.  We can offer sessions for all abilities, not just the basics and can offer school taster sessions too so do get in touch.

You may wish to just sit with a drink from our bar and enjoy the best view from any bowling green in the nation.  It’s stunning … come and see!

We look forward to seeing you from 7.00pm

The 24th Annual Ellesmere Open took place on our “Top” green.

Even as the first jack went out the thermometer hit 22 degrees and like the bowling it just got hotter as the competition progressed.  All 32 starters displayed great determination to get to the final but as the afternoon slipped into early evening, we reached the semi-finals, two fabulous matches; Adam Jones v Curtis Metcalfe and Callum Wraight v Rich Goddard, the latter game only decided by one chalk in favour of Callum.  The Final was a less close scoring match between Callum Wraight and Curtis Metcalfe with Callum only giving away five points to Curtis.  A great display of skill by Callum and indeed endurance after nearly nine hours of bowling in such very hot weather.  On behalf of the Committee and all members of Ellesmere Bowling Club I would like to thank all our generous sponsors and a further big thanks to all the members who gave their time to make this event the fabulous success it was.  Thanks again.  Roy Elks, Mayor of the Green.

Note for your diary; next year’s open is to be held on 9th June 2019
